Problems with Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac

Laine

I am studying (and have assignments piling up) and have two ongoing problems
I hope someone can help solve:

1/ In View>Print Layout I always see the blue formatting, making it hard to
read so it drives me crazy. How do I get rid of it? I've tried everything I
can think of!

2/ When I Insert>Picture it always messes up the entire document. I have to
fiddle around for ages with every tool imagineable to get things looking ok
again. No that's an understatement, I can never really get it to look right!

Can someone out there PLEASE HELP ME?

Hi Laine;

The first issue is simple: There's a button on the Standard Toolbar labeled
'Show' whose icon looks like one of the paragraph marks (¶) you're seeing in
the document. You can use that button to toggle the non-printing characters
On/Off or us a keystroke of Command+8. Before you banish them I'd suggest
you become more familiar with what they disclose & how to take advantage of
their presence... Especially in light of your second issue. This article
explains a great deal of what you need to know about those symbols:

Issue #2 is a bit more problematic to resolve without an understanding of
how the program works... And even then, controlling the position of objects
in a Word document can be a challenge. The first concept to accept is that
there are no physical pages in a Word document to put the graphic on despite
the working environment is designed to give the opposite impression. A Word
document is a flow of text from start to finish & any inserted object is
attached to that text in one of 2 ways: As In Line objects as though it were
an alphanumeric character or as a Floating Object (having some form of Text
Wrap applied) but still anchored to the first position of a paragraph.

Have a look at this page plus those pertaining to Floating graphics linked
to at the bottom of that page:
