Problems with OneNote's command-line switches

Hi folks,

I have a few problems concerning OneNote's command-line switches. Some of
them seem to work, some of them don't. For example, adding a new section by
using the /new switch works, but the switches /insertdoc or /sendto do not.
/insertdoc results in adding an empty page to the unfiled notes section, - no
matter, what (quoted, unquoted) file spec (with or without blanks) I pass.
And /sendto leads to a crash: You can see OneNote building the frame of the
main window, and the next you get is an error message along with a kind
request to send an error report, which states that the error occurred in
onmain.dll.

This behaviour doesn't depend on the user profile.

I'm running Windows XP Pro SP3 and Office 2007 SP1.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Ricco.

Using the /sendto switch causes OneNote to crash for me as well.

Vista x64 Service Pack 2

The error message:

Unhandled exception at 0x55017d99 in ONENOTE.EXE: 0xC0000005: Access
violation reading location 0x00000008.

Ani, this behaviour is caused by the simple fact that there is no Send To
One Note Printer Driver for x64 systems.

After playing around a bit, the situation appears to be not that simple.

(0) The OneNote installation is a new one.

(1) The occurring problems apparently have a great deal to do with the MODI
printer driver / Send To OneNote Printer Driver. The drivers work fine with
all programs, with the one and only exception of Excel. I only get a black
box when trying to print out an Excel sheet to OneNote. No problems with
Excel charts.

(2) Using the /insertdoc switch with TXT, DOCX, XLSX files adds an empty
page to the unfiled notes section. But adding pictures like BMP, JPG, TIFF,
GIF files by using the same switch works fine. Remarkable: The first time I
tried to insert a bmp file by using this switch, OneNote displayed a message
box which states, that it is unable to import files created by another
application. But I was unable to reproduce this message box, - because from
then on the import of BMP files works fine.

(3) OK, let's split the send-to-OneNote procedure in two steps. Whenever I
use the OneNote printer, OneNote uses the MODI printer driver to create a
temporary MDI file named Note.mdi. So I passed a Excel sheet to the MODI
printer driver, - and I got a mdi file with a perfect image of the Excel
sheet. After that, in Notepad, I passed a simple text file to the MODI
printer driver, - no problems at all. Next, I inserted these files as
printouts in OneNote. The mdi file of the text file is displayed well, the
other one not: OneNote displays a black box.

(4) So far, everybody might think that OneNote has its problems with the
interpretation of MDI files as far as Excel data are concerned. But is this
true? - I tried the following. I created a simple picture in Paint and saved
it as a TIFF file. I opened this file in MODI, - everything is displayed as
expected. Fine. Then I took my MDI export of an Excel sheet, opened this file
in MODI and saved it as a TIFF file. Et voilà: MODI diplays this TIFF picture
as a black box, only the thumbnail is OK.

(5) Using the /sendto switch lets OneNote crash.

(6) A repair installation doesn't change anything. Btw, before starting the
repair process, I deleted both drivers in the printers section of the control
panel AND I deleted the drivers in the driver cache.
