Problems with password after exchange server moved

Recently my echange served moved from one machine to another. The admin
tells me the config of the two machines is identical. I changed my
server name in the Entourage config. Now when I connect, the server
connects and downloads my email however, after that, it gives me an
error that says

Mail could not be received at this time.

The server for account "THE ACCOUNT" returned the error "Logon failure:
unknown user name or bad password." YOur username/password or security
settings may be incorrect. Would you like to try re-entering your
password?

When I reenter, it does not work. If I tell it not to save my password
and enter it when I first start up it works then gets to this same
point where it does not work after download all the email.

I have Entourage 11.2.3 and Exchange Server 2003 version 6.5.7638

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Cullen

Try going in the Keychain access application on your Mac. Look for an
entry called Exchange and delete it. Next time Entourage tries to get
e-mail, it will ask you for the login and apssword again. Save it and a
new entry will be created in the Keychain. Hopefully it will fix the
problem :-\

Thank you - I tired this but it did not seem to work. After I deleted
them in the key chain, the next time I ran entourage, it asked me for
new password, I gave it, it downloaded my email then went right back to
what was happening before.

Can you get in using the same user name and password through Webmail
(OWA) ?? Could your account be locked ??

Yes, OWA with same user name and password works fine. What is really
weird is when I delete all my passwords from key chain - Entourage does
what you expect, it ask me for the password before it downloads any
email. I enter it, it then goes and downloads my email, sends email
etc, so the password, domain, username clearly worked - then after all
that. It gives me the error above. If I enter the correct password
again, it instantly gives me the error above. If I say no and don't
enter it again, it moves me to offline mode.

It's driving me nuts so I greatly appreciate all the help in trying to
fix it :)

It's something I've seen in the past on our server. Afterthe admin
installed a few patches it just went away.
The only two causes I can think of would be either a server not
perfectly up to date, or a nasty permission issue on your Mac. Have you
tried repairing permissions (through DiskUtility)?

I tried the permision fix with DiskUtility and still same problem. The
server is farily actively managed in that there are thousands of people
on it and it has full time admins. However, I have no idea what level
it is patched up to or even how to ask this question. What would be the
right way to ask the admin if it had the right patches?

Oh thank God!! Someone else has this problem too!

I do computer support (mostly Windows), and one particularly important
client (my boss's boss) is having this exact problem reappearing every few
months. What is REALLY interesting is that if you leave the error window
up, Entourage will continue to see new mail as it comes in and run
synchronization processes. Of course, you can't actually do anything with
the new mail because the error window is modal. We can re-enter the
password, and work for 15 seconds or so before it reappears, but if we say
"no", the only way to reconnect to the Exchange server is to restart
Entourage.

I've tried everything, and they only thing I can find that fixes the problem
until the next time it crops up is to delete the Exchange account in
Entourage, recreate it, and let it resynchronize everything (which can take
quite a long time if you have a ton of mail and calendar appointments).

The first time this happened, I assumed it was just some preference file
corruption, but it just occurred again yesterday (the 3rd or 4th time in 6
months) which leads me to think it is an obscure bug. It's so intermittent,
and seems to only afflict this user (who won't tolerate extended
troubleshooting) that I don't know what I can do.

If anyone has any idea what is really going on or has some faster way to
solve the problem, PLEASE HELP.

Thanks,
Erich

Describe what your problem is and let him know that other people have
associated the problem with patches not being installed on the Exchange
(webmail/OWA) server.

In our case, the back-end server was OK, but the OWA server was not up
to date. THe OWA server is the one you anthenticate against and it could
be a separate machine.
