Problems with the taskbar notification icon

A

Alex O.

Hello,

I have a problem with Outlook 2003 "you have new unopened items"
taskbar notification icon.
It only appears when the incoming email is filed into the inbox.

However, I have an extensive set of rules which store incoming
messages into relevant folders, so the notification icon almost never
appears.

How can I change this behaviour? I need the icon to appear regardless
of the folder the email goes to.

I tried the following test to confirm the issue:

* Rule #1: display desktop alert
* Rule #3: move all email to specific folder and stop

I sent email to myself. Both rules were triggered.
Result: Desktop alert appeared, notification icon did not appear.

Then I added a rule:

* Rule #1: display desktop alert
* Rule #2: if message from myself, stop (email left in in inbox)
* Rule #3: move all email to specific folder and stop

I sent email to myself again. Rules #1 and #2 were triggered.
Result: Both desktop alert and notification icon appeared.

I want the icon to appear even in the first case, can it be done?

Thank you.
