Problems with this Newsgroup

JohnB

Hi.

I know that this Newsgroup is being upgraded but is anyone
else having the problems I am? When I post a question on a
section that is available, that section becomes
unavailable soon afterwards, so I cant see my post or the
replies. Then when the section does become available to
me, I cant see certain pages - one of which will
inevitably contain my post. This is soooooo frustrating.

For example, in this Forms section, I can currently see
pages 1, 4 and 5 but all others are unavailable.

Are you all having this problem? Is there any way around
it, or do I just have to be patient?

Cheers, JohnB

My advice would be not to use the web interface, but instead use a proper
NNTP newsgroup reader.

You've already got one as part of Internet Explorer (Outlook Express), or
there are other, non-Microsoft products such as Forte Agent.

Have the reader use the msnews.microsoft.com server. There's no
authentication required, and no cost.

I experience none of the problems you (and others) have reported going this
route (and, in my opinion, it's a much better experience than the web
interface!)

Thanks Doug.

Ive done that and it works a treat. Curious. Now I need to
figure out how to post and reply without displaying my
EMail address also - Id like to remain anonymous in that
respect.

Assuming you're using Outlook Express, when you create the account to link
to msnews.microsoft.com, you have to provide information. One of the items
is E-mail address. Simply "munge" your address there, and that's all that
will appear in the post. For example, I use
NOSPAM_djsteele@NOSPAM_canada.com

Other newsreader clients have the same capability.

Look at my address in the header of this post.

In outlook express, click on
Tools + Accounts + News
Set the e-mail address to:
[email protected]

No one will be able to send you a message based upon your newsgroup
post.
That should be what you want, as newsgroup messages should be
answered here in the newsgroup anyway.
