Problems with typing in Russian in Word'04

Hi,

I am going nuts because of this problem. I am on the verge of purchasing a different word processor, but I paid $150 for this one so it should work!!
Here's what happens. I set my language in the "International" Preferences in the Mac settings (I have the little taskbar icon flag thing enabled to quickly change my language). When I try to type in Word after setting the language (under tools) to Russian, I can type okay...until I realize that I made a mistake a few words back. So I click to move the cursor back to where I need to make a change...and the Mac language switches back to English. I have to click the flag in the Mac taskbar to change it back to Russian, then type. Then when I need to move my cursor again, I click where I want it to go (or, just move the cursor by the arrows), and the language, again, switches back to english, so I have to change it yet again. It is so annoying! Anyone seen this or know a fix? The help file didn't tell me anything, and I didn't see any other way to change the document language other than under Tools | Language.
Is this PEBKAC or am I doing something wrong...or what? Thanks!

Sadly, the "Language" is designed to change when the keyboard changes.

They think it's "Feature" but it causes no end of misery...

I can only suggest that you make sure all of your Styles are set to Russian
language as well as highlighting the whole document and setting that to
Russian before you begin to type.

Unless you have edited your Normal template, all your styles will be set to
a default of English US.

Close all other documents, use File>Open to open the Normal Template, change
the Normal style to Russian, then highlight the whole document (Command + a)
and set it to Russian too.

Save, close and quit Word. When it restarts it should be "more" stable.

Hope this helps

Alas, this is not working for me. When I make the changes to the language of the Normal doc, and save, close, and restart, when I re-open it, it switches back to English AND changes my keyboard to English. Then I reset it and resave it, and open a new blank document - bam it's English. Switch the language on my keyboard and the original problem occurs.
I knew I shouldn't have gotten any MS software when I switched to a Mac. This is just the kind of problems I would expect from MS. Do they not realize that it makes the software completely unusable?
