Problems with Windows

I am typing along and suddenly my laptop jumps to another line or jumps back
into the middle of another word. Any suggestions?

Plug-in an external mouse. Seriously. I've found just the vibration of
typing triggers the touch pad which is moving the insertion point. Sometimes
you can dial back the sensitivity but the best solution I've found is using
an external mouse and allowing the touch pad to be disabled when the
external mouse is used.

Thankfully my new laptop doesn't exhibit the same behavior but with my old
one it was maddening!

....

And for those times it's impractical to use an external mouse, the second
best thing to do is position the mouse pointer on an empty portion of the
menu bar. When there, unintended left-clicking will do nothing. Pain having
to position it, but perhaps less than the pain of it moving the cursor
randomly or (usually much worse), clicking on buttons or the like
unintentionally.
