Product Key Problem

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) I have been following Diane MVP discussion re Entering a Product key" but may it may have closed out with her having resolved the problem; hence 'new' question.

I have had MSO 2008 running fine on my iMac (updated to 12.1.0) and my new MBPro(Core i5 10.6.3) - that was until I attempted to update it further on my laptop. Having downloaded the updates 12.1.5 through to 12.2.4, it continually comes up with "this version does not recognise your Product ID".

I have read and re-read your advice. I have tried a complete removal of Office and re-installation, ensured my iMac is not running Office at the same time (though quite how my MBPro would know this baffles me!), tried the re-entering of the 5 x 5 Product Key numbers again and again ( which worked before but not now) and seemingly installed all the updates successfully.

However, as soon as I try to open Entourage or Word I get the same message re Product ID! I am now in the process of secure emptying the Trash (- taking an age 'cos of all the MSO 2008 stuff I have repeatedly moved there!) and while I am waiting thought I'd plead for your assistance! I won't touch my iMac as it still seems to be fine at 12.1.0.
Very confused

"This identity cannot be opened with this version of Entourage".

This is telling you that you need to update before the Identity can be opened.

OK fine, but before, when I attempted to install all the updates right up to 12.2.4 - after having re-installed the basic MSO2008, I was still getting this message.

Are you installed now? What version does Entourage show in the Finder if you select the application in column view?

OK, in that case please could you tell me how I do a complete removal because
I am obviously doing something wrong!

Use "Remove Office" then you will manually need to remove some additional
files. See directions here:

No, I did not do a re-start between each update ( I wrongly assumed that as it
said "Update installed successfully" that it had been!)

THEN.... installed update 12.2.0 and, after usual log out, restart, log in +
shift key, went to open Entourage to check and .... "Office for Mac has
determined that your Product Key is not valid"! ....and it was all going so
well!!

First, the 12.2.0 updater has been rolled into a combo. After you install
12.1.0, you install 12.2.3 then 12.2.4. See this link for info on this
error:

Invalid Product Key after updating to SP2
