While using powerpoint, I have encountered problems during presentations that
the screen will suddenly turn black. I have installed service pack 2 and
worked with the regisistry key but it has not helped. Can anyone help??

What do you do to get the screen back? Wiggle the projector cord? If it's
something like that, I'd suspect a hardware failure.

Otherwise, check your power settings -- make sure your system isn't set to
hibernate or standby after some amount of time. Also turn off your screen
saver.

If you mean that a slide or part of a slide will suddenly turn black and the
only way to get the slide to redraw correctly is to go forward or back one
slide and then come back to your original slide, then read on...

The only solution I have found at present is to play with the hardware
acceleration settings on the graphics card. By reducing this by two notches,
it can eliminate the problem on some machines/cards. Also switching on/off
the Hardware Acceleration in the PowerPoint SlideShow Setup window can make a
difference. Least acceptable option is to reduce screen resolution to 800x600.

If you're lucky, you'll find a combination that will solve your problem for
your particular setup.

If anyone else has any information on this, I'd be grateful as I have a COM
addin that updates slides and with some of the newer and faster machines,
PowerPoint 2003 *sometimes* does not redraw the Slideshow window correctly,
resulting in black screens.
