Slide show mode - black border on left

Hi,

I consider myself to be quite proficient when it comes to powerpoint but I
recently bought a new laptop and started noticing the following problem (with
2007). I have my screen resolution set to 1280 x 800 and in "Set Up Show" I
have it using the "current resolution". However, when I enter slide show
mode my slide shifts completely to the right-hand-side of the screen leaving
a single black border along the left side of the display. Normally, there is
a black border on both the left and right sides of the display while in slide
show mode but this has been bothering me for a while. As well, this doesn't
change when I hook up an external monitor/projector to my laptop. The only
thing that seems to help is when I change the resolution in PPT to 800 x 600.
Doing so stretches the presentation across the entire screen (without any
black borders) and the slide looks oblong due to the stretching. I've gone
through each resolution in PPT to look for a happy medium but all of them
fail with my slide shifted to the right! One interesting thing is that this
is temporarily alleviated when I go from a black screen and back to the
original (by pressing the "B" key).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Is 1280x800 the native resolution of your monitor? If not, switch it to the
native resolution.
To avoid black borders at all, you will have to use slides with an aspect
ratio the same as the screen. In case of 1280x800 that's 16 : 10.
Make sure that your projector is capable of this resolution.

Very strange but somehow, turning off the hardware acceleration solved the
problem...
