programme associations

Hello I use windows 98 and have suddenly developed a
problem sending and opening photo's via e-
mail and opening and sending some files. I get the
message 'This file does not have a
programme associated with it for performing this action.
Create an association in my computer by clicking on view
then folder options' When i do this I don't understand
what it asks me to do. I have noticed that the icon beside
all my photo's has changed to a 'windows' icon and it used
to be something like a picture frame with a tick accross.
Sorry if this sounds childish but I'm very new to
computing and not used to computer language. I hope
someone can help me in plain English!

Right click on My Computer and click Explore. Go to
Tools, Options, and click on the File Types tab. Search
for the .jpg or .tif (or whatever extension you use for
pictures), and see what program is associated with it.
If you can't find the .jpg or .tif extensions, click on
New, type in the extension, and then click on the file
you want associated with it. Usually for pictures it is
Windows Viewer or some program like that.
