Programmes keep crashing in Office application

I keep finding that some files that I open in office
applications. More often with Excel keeping producing an
error message which results in the application closing
down. This keeps happening ann at no given stage.
Sometimes it is when the file is opened, at others when
you try and make changes to a chart.
It also happens in Word.

If you can post the error message, that would help in
finding out what causes that.
