T
TABI
Let me introduce the term "TABI". A person that has a Traumatic Aquired Brain
Injury. I of which am one. With the use of a computer my life went from
being among the "Walking Dead" to one who "Lives". My computer is an
extension of my brain. Having a short & long term meomory loss makes life
difficult if not impossible. Keeping track of where I put things used daily,
what to wear, what I like & dislike, locating items that I haven't used for
awhile such as manuals, tool box, what I need, what I don't need, things to
do and done...almost everything one takes forgranted goes on my computer.
Without a working memory, life is complicated. I live beyond my capabilities
because of my computer.
My main problem, and that of others is our energy levels. Because our
brains have to take in all information around us, nothing is automatic thus
we have to think through every step, we wear out easily. Myself, upon
awakening, 5 hours after my feet hit the ground, my energy is depleated and
I am back in bed resting. Maximum of 2 hours learning, back in bed. It has
taken me approximately 1/2 hour to write this much. I prefer evenings
because it is quiet & I don't have to compete with noise that my brain cannot
filter out.
So here is my question....couldln't someone design a program suitable for
people such as myself? I learn by repetition. Example....push
button...turns on computer, wait until set up done, click my name...sign in.
click on blue dot...internet connected, click on and so on and so on....once
I master each step repeating it over and over I can remember. If someone
could make a teaching program broken down into simple steps, using
pictures..like connecting the dots....without all the technology...life would
be more simpler.
If there is such a program...please let me know. Oh by the way I searched
using Brain Injury....9ish items appeared...not one mentioned anything re:
cognative learning abilities....yes...the blind do, physically and mentally
impaired...but people like myself who can lead a relatively normal life with
the use of a computer....none.
Sad isn't it as million upon millions of children and adults have brain
injury of some sort....and there is no help for us. If there is...please
direct me to this program as I could really use the help. Am teaching
myself with the aid of my occupational therapist who comes once a week. I
have a high IQ but my learning abilities is much like the mouse who goes
though a maze to get his food, then back through the maze home. If the maze
is changed, the mouse is lost and learning begins again. It is much like
making the wheel every time I use the computer especially when changes are
made.
Well....guess this is enough information...if not please feel free to
contact me. Thank you for your time....Lynda
