Proj ServerPublishing Errors

T

Tim.

Hello,

Projects and resources are not being published to the web. Generally they
appear to be of the type:

Description: Cannot find file '<PC10DSN>\ProjectName.Published'

This just started happening recently, we have been running for quite
sometime before this problem popped up. After this error there are a string
of view notification service errors. We did have a problem in the past with
the view drop service, whiuch we thought we corrected by fixing the userid
and password in the registry settings.

Looks like we lost the connection to our DSN, I'm just not sure where else
to look for it... or if it is something else.

The full errors that are appearing in the logs look like:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Microsoft Project Server Tracing Eventlog Provider
Event Category: None
Event ID: 2
Date: 10/15/2004
Time: 11:39:55 AM

Line: 1691
Error Number: 0x80004005
Description: Assert Detected. The error code was also included.

Tim:

Download the version of the Edit Site tools appropriate for the version of
Project Server you're using (2002). Get this at www.microsoft.com/downloads

After installing the tool, open your site and change the DSN name and save.
Then change it back to the original name and save. See if that helps.

Thanks Gary. I found that the System DSN was missing from the server. (Any
ideas how this might happen?) I added it and it looks like those errors are
going away.

We actually have EditSite running 2 project server sites. They were
initialized to use the same DSN and both test successfully. It seems strange
to me to use the same DSN for both sites, though, since they use different
inital catalogs, even though the different initial catalogs are then
specified in EditSite. Does this make a difference or could these interfere
with each other and muck things up?

Finally, there are 30 or so enterprise resources that are not available in
PWA since they were added while we were having this problem. What would be
the best way to update the resources to fix this?

Thanks!
Tim.

The two sites should not be using the same DSN. This could muck things up.
As for the resources, it depends on their current state. If they're in the
resource pool, then open them, make a change and save and close. Do a dummy
change if need be. This is the only way I know of to force a publish on
resources.
