Proj Srver 2003--Permission Control for Project Cntr Edit Button

T

Terry Peters

We are using Project Server 2003 in a highly customized environment. We want
to prevent the project manager group from altering the custom project fields
that are accessible from the Project Center when a user clicks the EDIT
Button/Link. These fields are set by the PMO and should not be changed
later.

The Team Member group is denied use of these custom fields from the EDIT
link, but the project manager group can still alter them despite shutting off
many permissions and mapping others to the contrasting permissions for team
members. That is, we have tested turning off individual permissions for
everything that seems to remotely relate to the custom fields access but have
had no success in shutting it down.

Can anyone help us identify which permission(s) need to be disallowed to
prevent access to those custom fields from PWA Project Center?

Thanks in advance,

Hi Terry,

I assume that your PM's can use Project Professional, where they can change
the custom fields anyway. Unless you dont want your PM's to not use Porject
Professional, you will not be able to restrict the edit custom field
functionality. The reason why it works fine with Team members is because they
cannot use Project Professional
Hope this helps

To piggyback on Marc's sage advice, this is a training and performance
issue, and not a Project Server security issue. As Marc stated, you cannot
prevent your PM's from accessing and changing this information, either in
PWA or Project Professional. Therefore, you need to teach them not to
change the information, explain why they should not change it, and then hold
them ACCOUNTABLE for this behavior. :) Hope this helps.
