Project 2000 Pro & Project Server 2003

Greg Bonawitz

We are trying to connect Project Pro 2000 with Project Server 2003, and
I'm stuck. When I go to connect to the server from Pro 2000, I get an
error message stating...
1) Make sure the URL is correct
2) Check to see if the browser if offline
3) The server may be unavailable
4) There may be a problem with the server.

I have verified that none of the items above could be the problem.

I have seem an old post stating that 2000 Pro doesn't work with 2003
server, but...
1) Co-workers were on a conference call late last year with Microsoft
(and the consultant) and they said the pair should work

2) Dell (from whom we get our software) is stating that Microsoft said
the pair should work.

Does anyone else have any expereince getting 2000 Pro to work with 2003
Server?

Thanks

Greg:

There is no such product called "2000 pro." The "Professional" designation
began with Project 2002 and continues with the new edition 2003. You cannot
connect to a Microsoft Office Project Server 2003 using Project 2000. You
can use Project 2000 to connect to Project Central, which shipped with
Project 2000, and you can use Project 2000 to connect to Microsoft Project
Server 2002, but not when Enterprise features are enabled.

If you're looking to implement EPM, then you'll want to equip your PMs with
Microsoft Office Project Professional 2003.
