Project 2003 authentication issue

Hi,

we use Project 2003 Srv with WSS 2003 and SQL 2k on the server. Proj 2003
Prof. is used on the client side. However there is only user in our company
that has authentication issue and nothing helps. Of course he has added the
Proj Srv sever site to trusted sites, but when he tries to use PWA the
standard Windows authentication window occurs to enter login and pass. He
can repeat many times his login/pass, but nothing helps. When I enter my
login/pass instead of him, I'm recognized and all works.

We have also Proj Prof installed on the server. As workaround we gave the
user remote desktop access to the server and he is able to complete his work
cuccessfully there.

I've verified this user's network settings and all (except IP addr and IP
routing enabled) is the same like in case of other users. Does anybody know
what may cause this problem ?

thx

Can you user access PWA from another PC ? If so, then it could be that
his/her user profile is corrupt. Try deleting/recreating the profile. You
could also try clearing down any passwords cached by the credential manager.

This has happened to me lots of times when:

a) A user's password is cached in his profile
B) The user's password is changed but not updated in the cache.

You can remove the cache information by going to Control Panel -> Users -->
Advanced --> Manage Passwords.

Nico,

thanks for the advice (I think your right) - the users have WinXP installed,
however not sure how to remove pass cache from there. Would you be so kind
to describe in a bit more detailed way ? I'm able to restet password from
there only, or change some other account settings, but cannot find any
"clear cache"....

thx,

Hi bidzis,

The passwords are stored on a per-server base in the control panel User
Accounts aplet. The way to get there will depend on what you are using, but
on a Windows XP machine that is on the domain this will be

Control Panel --> User Accounts.
Click the Advanced Tab
Click the Manage Passwords button.

Now you will have a dialogue that shows the a list of servers - these are
the cached credentials. What I would normally do is just remove the entry
for the EPM or SharePoint server as you do not need this information to be
in there if your Internet Explorer settings are set correctly and you are
logging on to a domain.

ok, thx for the advice - looks like it helped, but not immediately. The
second day user has sent me email stating "strange, but now it became
working..."
