Project 2003 Authentication Problems

E

Eliot Harrison

I am using Project Server 2003 on a 2000 Server, which is
also the domain controller.

Having a bunch of problems, one that when trying to open
the sample database it says it requires Analysis Server
with service pack 3 installed. I have this installed, and
have reinstalled it, AND updated the included service
pack, but I continue to get this message.

My other problem is when I create usernames to
authenticate using their Windows logon, I am still
prompted for a password. I have read all of the people
who were also having this problem, and none of the fixes
have worked.

If I create an ID to authenticate with Project 2003
username, I am able to have the users login, however, if
I originally created the ID for Microsoft authentication,
and then switch it to Project authentication, no matter
what password is set, it will not allow the user to
login. Giving a message saying bad username/password.

Help!

The difficulty in trying to answer your question is due the lack of
information provided in your post. Project Server is a fairly complex
application that involves many variables, some or all of which influence and
effect each other. If you could provide some additional info about your
environment, such as:
what operating system do the client computers run?
what type of network environment do you use - Novell, Windows, Linux, AS400?
are you running Project Server in "Mixed Authentication Mode"?
are the users part of a domain that uses Active Directory?
which MS Project client are you using? 2002, 2003, Pro, Std
are you creating accounts in Active Directory for the users? do you have
them check the "Remember my password" box?
why are switching from a windows authentication to a PWA authentication? do
you need both?
and why would you be wanting to open a sample database? are you using SQL or
MSDE?

Answers to these questions will help the people who have the knowledge to
zero in on your problem and hopefully provide you with some answers.
