Project 2003 Server connect problem. Password...

K

Kevin K.

I am really frustrated. The Microsoft support area does
barley has any support information on the Project 2003 web
site.

I got a Windows 2003 Server, Enterprise Edition. Installed
SQL Server 2000, and Microsoft Project 2003. When I try to
connect from my client system, I get prompted to enter a
password (via htaccess type window). I really don't know
how to remove this password protection. I am not sure if
it is an ISS issue or Microsoft Project 2003 Server issue.
I can log into the Microsoft Project Server, directly on
the Server machine (via localhost link).

Please, somebody help me.

It sounds like you haven't configured your IIS directory security correctly.
The installation guide takes you through all the requirements. You need to
spend some time and figure out what you missed.

Thanks for your reply, unfortunately I have gone through
the documentation many times and have also done complete
re-installs many times. Could it be, that I do not use
DOMAINS but rather WORKGROUPS?

This really explains why most people use different project
management platforms, I have worked to install this the
whole weekend.

Kevin:

The lack of a domain certainly affects your installation approach. There are
all types of considerations that go along with a non-domain environment. You
really haven't described enough about your system for anyone to give you
good guidance. We can only be as specific as you're willing to be. For
instance, copying your installation log to the group could help us determine
what you might have missed or misinterpreted.

The prompting for passwords in popup dialogs is coming from the server.
Again, this generally indicates that you haven't properly configured
directory security for your system in IIS or you haven't properly configured
your application server role on the server. Project Server implementers
should be well versed in Windows Server 2003, IIS 6. and have some
understanding of Windows SharePoint Services.
