Project 2003 Standard & Vista

I have been trying to install Project 2003 on my HP laptop with Vista Home
Premium without success for some months now. It appears to install on what
are now about 10 different tries, and most often, after an install and a
reboot, I get the 'failed to start in safe mode, would you like to detect and
repair' dialogue box. Upon agreeing, it 'configures', states it completes
successfully, then 'installs features' twice and finally gives the 'not
enough memory'. I have 2GB of RAM and just know that is not the case.
The Vista discussion group has provided several solutions (including
registry modifications, adding virtual memory, getting Vista Business, etc)
none of which work. I am hoping someone here can help me complete what should
be a simple installation, I would think?
Thanks!!

Hi Dan,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

I don't think I can help as the installation of Project 2003 on my Vista
Home Premium PC went without problem. Have you tried right-clicking on the
setup file and select to install as administrator? Have you tried
installing on another PC to prove the integrity of Project 2003? Have you
tried installing in safe mode (if that is possible)? Otherwise, I can only
suggest a call to Microsoft.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Mike:
Thanks for the response, I appreciate it! As it turns out, I have in fact
tried each of your suggestions to no avail, including the call to Microsoft
(that's where I received the advice to upgrade to Vista Business). I know
there's at least one other person with the identical problem, and was hoping
against hope a patch had been issued.

I guess this is just one of those weird isolated problems??

There's no reason to upgrade to Vista Business, as Vista Home Premium works
just fine. I suppose you could try re-installing or repairing Vista, or
perhaps a system restore. Try closing all anti-virus programs first.
Otherwise, I'm fresh out of ideas. Good luck!
