Project 2007 & Data Analysis

Max

Greetings to all.

I install Microsoft Project Server 2007 Trial version on the same computer
on which works Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standart with SP2 and SharePoint.
I also installed SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services and all that needed.
The (OLAP) cube create fine, but one thing does not work.

When I on the Quick Launch, click Server Settings.
On the Server Settings page, click Manage Views. A list of views will appear.
Click New View.
In the Name and Type section, in the View Type list, select the type `Data
Analysis` and have error : "It was not possible to be connected to server
Analysis Services. Check up correctness of a name of a server and repeat
attempt."

What is it? Why I cannot be connected?
HELP please.

hi Max,

If all of the cubes are created ( you should have 14 of them in Analysis
Services), then it seems that your browser setting may not be set to allow
you to connect to another data source.

Please check if the following setting is checked on:
Within Internet Exprlorer go to Tools, Internet Options
click on the Security Tab and highlight the Trusted Sites
Then click on the "custom Level..." button
under the Miscellaneous section ensure that "Access data sources accross
domains is Enabled.
Can you please check and see if this setting allows you to access the Data
Analysis within the Browser.
Let me know if it worked

Max, can you please try to connect to Analysis Services via Excel and see if
you can browse the cubes this way.
Please let me know if you can
Thanks
Marc

Yes Marc.
Everything`s all right.

I can connect to Analysis Services via Excel and can browse the cubes.

Max,

Recently I had the same problem: I could access AS via Excel but not
via PWA.
What I did to solve it: I uninstalled all SQL server related client
software (SQL2000 enterprise manager and SQL2005 management studio).
After that I followed the instructions from technet (see link below) to
install the ole db provider &c, and it worked! I was able reinstall
SQL2005 MS afterwards without any problems.

Max, I would check that all your internet browser settings are correct. Here
is a list that I would check before going to Hanses suggestion:

INTERNET EXPLORER
- "http://projectserverURL" will need to be a trusted site
- Trusted site Custom level properties will need to be set as follow:
Miscellaneous > Access data sources across domains = enable ( I believe
that is already set based on your group policy, but should be checked )
User Authentification > Logon > Automatic logon with current username and
password ( I believe that is already set based on your group policy, but
should be checked )

Access to Data Analysis ( Project Server web based reporting system )
- All client machines that wish to access the data analysis ( Web based
pivot table ) require the SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services 9.0 OLE DB
PROVIDER. Please note, in order to install this provider you will need to
install an upgrade of the xml schema called MS XML 6

These packages can be downloaded under
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...94-8453-4998-8226-fa42ec403d17&DisplayLang=en
( Feature Pack for Microsoft SQL 2005 – February 2007)
- The file names are
SQLServer2005_Analysis Services 9.0 OLE DB Provider_ASOLED89.msi
Msxml6_x86.msi

Hope this will resove your issue. Let meknow if it worked

I'd like to throw a wrinkle in this, as I am having no luck getting analysis
services to work, as in I can't build cubes. The appropriate query string
seems to be the issue. We've called Microsoft and discovered since we're
running on a 64bit box (since 2007 is a 64 bit application) we need the 64
bit version of the query string. Is anyone else running on a 64bit box and
getting cubes to work? Otherwise I'm going to be required to reinstall
everything on a 32bit box.

Also, how do you get excel to see analysis services?
