Project 2007 disappearing tasks in customised fields???

Hi,

I have recently transferred from Project 2003 to 2007 and seem to be having
no end of difficulties with 'disappearing' information in customised fields,
unless the auto calculation is turned off and ALL customised fields are in
view, the plan expended and scrolled through the information will 'disappear'
(most of the time temporarily, however on a few occassions the info has been
lost completely) once calculate kicks in.

This is especially an issue when extracting to excel as I use the 'Save As'
process and unless all custom fields are viewed much of the data extracted
will be missing.

Hi Tinna,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

This sounds ominous and could be caused by corruption. We need to discover
whether your project is at fault, whether it is Project at fault, or whether
it's your PC. Does the symptom occur with other projects on this PC? Does
it occur with this project on other PCs? Does it occur with other projects
on other PCs?

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: <http://www.mvps.org/project/>

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :))

Thanks for the quick response Mike. Not sure I like the word ominous ;o)

It happens on all projects on 2007 but having said that all projects have
originated from my PC. Do you think it might be my PC at fault as I have
tried to deinstall and reinstall project but the same happens.

Thanks

Hi Tinna,

I suggest you take backup copies of all your projects, just in case. For
one of the projects you could try the suggestions in FAQ Item: 43. Handling
project file corruption and/or bloat. FAQs, companion products and other
useful Project information can be seen at this web address:
http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

If that one survives and you're still getting problems with it, then I would
put it down to the customizations. How many are there of them? Can you
trace the worst culprit? You could email me the zipped file and I could
have a look at it.

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

I't strange but this is known bug.

When there are custom properties with graphical indicator, 2 records
ar created for this property one with Value and second with Graphical
indicator UI. And application do ot expct this strang behavior.
Other symptoms: Such project cannod be updated by PSI and from PWA.

Workaround use graphical indicators only on calculated fields

Hotfix: I heard that this bug is fixed in SP1 which is ready but will
be released after 5 months with SP1 for MS Office 2007. (So this is
prety got reason tell your TAM what do you think about it )

PS on my blog i released tool which check project plans stored on
sever.
