Project 2007 Install - New SSP

The install to a two tier farm envivorment seemed to go pretty well
until I reached the penultimate step "new Shared Services Provider". I
believe I am following the instructions correctly and using the an
appropriate account but on clicking ok receive the message 'unable to
connect to database. Check database connection information and make
sure the database server is running'.

I can connect to databases via DSN from the application server so
assume all ok.

Has anyone any ideas or maybe has hit a similar problem and resolved.

As a follow on from my previous post a few minutes ago...
I have noticed the following events in the event viewer on the
Application server
The first one appears every few seconds

1/ The description for Event ID ( 27745 ) in Source ( Windows
SharePoint Services 3 ) cannot be found. The local computer may not
have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to
display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /
AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for
details. The following information is part of the event: #50071:
Unable to connect to the database SharePoint_Config on server1. Check
the database connection information and make sure that the database
server is running..

...............
2/ Unknown SQL Exception 0 occured. Additional error information from
SQL Server is included below.

Cannot generate SSPI context.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Are you running a named instance of SQL ? If so you must specify
sqlserver\instance name in the SSP creation pages.

no, not a named instrance however have tried again today and have
completed ok. Unless I made a mistake yesterday perhaps the servers
just needed extra time or reboots to bed in.

Thanks.
