project 2007

i'm on vista ultimate sp#1, project 2007 (12.0.6211.1000) SP1 MSO
(12.0.6213.1000) ... the projecct plan i've been working on over the past 2
weeks now says when i attempt to open it ...

"The operation cannot be completed because the source file contains invalid
project data or the number of total rows would exceed the limit of 1,0480,000
rows in a project" ...

well, the project plan i created is:

1. 53 rows
2. has notes in almost all 53 rows
3. not password protected
4. saved in project 200-2003 format (for backward compat. w/my coworkers).

i've read a couple postings ... under tools->options ... turned off
"automatic calculation" ... and tool->options "Allow loading files with
legacy or non default file formats" ...

I CANNOT ACCESS MY VERY IMPORTANT PROJECT PLAN ... MICROSOFT ... I'M USING
YOUR PRODUCT ... UNACCEPTABLE!

Hello Tom,

First, I'm sorry that your project file appears to be damaged and that
you cannot open it. I don't know if you *may* be able to recover some
of the data by creating a new project file and then inserting the
damaged project file into it. **Make sure you uncheck the option
"link to file" in the Insert Project dialog box. ** Through the Insert
Project method, you may be able to recover the project file.

Second, no one who regularly posts here works for Microsoft, so I
doubt your post will reach their ears.

Third, I strongly suggest that when using *any* software product to
work on critical files, you have a backup procedure in place.

If the project file is as you state just 53 tasks, there is also
something else going on that has led to the file corruption. Blank
lines in project files and links from summary task to summary tasks
are the usual suspects.

I hope this helps.

thanks julie ... i'll try the 1st option, but right now have little hope of
recovery ...

i agree with backups ... but ... that would be along the lines of a HD
crashing where i would backup often/frequently (and i do) ... however, i
WOULN'T expect the app that i'm using (project 2007) to corrupt its own file
/ format ... self sabatoge?

the PP was only 53 steps, but the notes is what i lost of value ... i have
other PP's that are over 5k steps ... i don't think i'll be trusting project
2007 anytime soon ...

microstiffly disappointed,

tjf
