Project Center Views

Hi,

I am using MS Project Pro 2003 SP2 and Project Server 2003. I would like to
list some selected projects in Project Center with a user defined View. My
question is how can I select some projects and show in project center? The
filter options do not help... Is there a way of doing the same in client side
namely in Project Pro 2003? Because I have defined a view in Project Pro 2003
and by selecting a project, I can see the project within this view. I would
like to see some set of projects within a specified view. Is it possible?

thank you

Be more specific, what are you trying to filter on?

This can be done with filters if you have the projects tagged appropriately
with meta data or via security permissions.

In filter, there are some options that we can choose. However, I would like
to choose 5 out of 50 projects. These projects cannot be differentiated
according to their names or any field. I would like to choose manually 5
projects and just see them in the project center view. Other projects are
irrelevant to my view. Is it possible to that?

If there is not relevant filter then you can create one by creating a custom
field in which you associate your name to these 5 projects if you are the
only one concerned with them for example and then you can filter on this
field by your name.

Otherwise, what is the criteria that determines for you that you are only
concerned with these projects, are you the owner, are you on the project
team? These are criteria's you might be able to use in your category/group
security model in order to have all your views filtered automatically by
them. Meaning your project center and your project pro would only allow you
to see projects that you own, or projects in which you are a team member.

Another option might be to set your filter specifically for the project IDs
or the Project Name of the 5 projects you are looking for and then to save
that view as a link which is a feature available in 2003. I believe it will
remember your filter when you save the link.

Hope this helps.

I cannot add any field into the projects. Actually there is no criteria to
select. Only criteria is active projects should be chosen. There are some
other project plans which are passive. However, there is not field or field
name that can help me in filtering. I would like to choose projects manually
and show them as "active projects". Is it possible?

No, you will need to create a custom field for Active and Passive and tag
the project appropriately then your views can be grouped or filtered by this
field.

You need to create a custom enterprise project field based on a lookup table
that has the active passive etc values.

Then you need to edit the project properties for all your projects and set
the value appropriately on all the projects.

Then create a project center view that either groups or filters by that new
project level custom field.
