project client connection to project server 2003

I get the problem when trying to save the project back to the server.

You have chosen to cancel logging on to Microsoft Project Server.

You must log on to connect Microsoft Project with Microsoft Project
Server. Do you want to log on to Microsoft Project Server, or do you
want to cancel and
return to Microsoft Project? Retry or Cancel. Then I get into a loop
telling me that if I restart project my changes will not be saved,
etc. etc. Then I have to check in the plan from PWA admin.

Any ideas?

Not sure I understand but if you are working with an enterprise project you have to log on to the Server to open this enterprise project. An enterprise project is one that was saved to the Server and has a .Published type. You stay connected to the Server while making changes then save back to the Server when completed

If you cancel logging you are working with a local version of the project plan. In this case, you need to import the project to the Server. Tools > Options > Import project to Server. Go thru the wizard

Hope this helps or clarify

Thanks for your reply Karl Kill

The problem occurs when an enterprise project is being worked upon. The project was originally opened from the server (Project Web Access) and when saving the project the error occurs. The connection to the server works fine to get at the project but has intermittant problems when saving the project

The project client thinks "You have chosen to cancel logging on to Microsoft Project Server" but can't connect to the server anyway

I'll try the wizard you suggested but would be interested in any further thoughts too

Many thanks

Are you using the exact same URL to connect to Project Server when you
connect using the browser as you used to create your Project Server account
in Project Professional? We see strange behavior when these don't match.

The urls are exactly the same. I have no problem getting the project plan into the client application. It is just saving it back I get issues.
