Project crashing on Startup

We installed Project Standard 03 on a XPsp2 box with Office 03 also
installed. The installation(s) and update(s) go smoothly... no snags.
However, when we run the program, or rather try to run the program, we are
greeted with "Microsoft Project has encountered a problem and needs to close"
There seems to be nothing different between this machine and the rest of
our users except that it is a conference room PC with many user accounts in
it.

Anyone experiencing this, or have anythng we might check?
TIA

Hey Kathryn,
I've had similiar problems with Project 2002. It's a nice error isn't it :)
Anyway a couple of things to try.

Boot xp in safe mode and start up project and see if it errors out. If it
boots up fine there may be a service or program running on startup of that pc
that is causing project to have problems.

Go to add/remove programs....highlight project 2003 standard and select the
change tab. Do a reinstall or a repair.

Third and final thing. Go to start...run... msconfig...Click on the service
tab....Check mark the "hide all microsoft services tab" and then uncheck all
the remaining services and reboot. Open up project and see if it errors out.
Hopefully it can be narrowed down to a program or service that isn't running
properly on the machine. Let me know if this helps.

Thanks,
Edwin

Thank you for the suggestions, Edwin. Yeah... that's a real special error
<gag>

I have done the repair AND reinstall thing a few times (about 6 I think ....
"hmmmm, I wonder if I forgot something LAST time.....")

I'll try the other 2 suggestions and let you know what happens... And when
it works I'll share my "tech support tiera and bouquet of roses" with you. :D

That's great.. does it include a free drink to? :) Yea those errors are
really annoying We are migrating to Project 2003 professional in the fall...
I'm glad to hear that it's so stable :p Makes me wish we were going over to
project server so I wouldn't have to deal with so many client installs on all
of our desktops. I hope my suggestions work out for you. Let me know if it
doesn't. I may have a few other tricks to try :)

Thanks,
Edwin

I'd be happy to discuss the merits of Project Server with your management
team, or send them some info to help convince them that it's a good thing.

Just trying to lighten you load... totally altruistically, you understand ;-)

Seriously, executives who see Project Server properly demonstrated almost
always love it. They get excited about Resource load analysis, or the
Project Center dashboard, or the incredible collaboration power of Windows
SharePoint Services.

Hey Reid,

Thanks for the offer. I've just completed the M2732 project server class and
I will be taking the mcp test for it next month. We've worked with Microsoft
on bringing project server into our company a while back. Unfortunately we
had some budget cuts and we didn't have the money or resources to take on
that kind of initiative. It's something were very interested in. But it's not
the right time. I'm hoping it will be back on the plate next year.
