Project Only Timesheet (no tasks), Project Server 2007

It appears to me that when setting up Timesheets for Projects only and not
Tasks, the only purpose is to log hours worked on a project and not update
the project status from the timesheets.

If I want to either import time to timesheets or import time from
timesheets, I need to setup the timesheets wtih tasks.

Am I correct in my observation?

Thanks,
PeteK

The purpose of the Timesheet in Project Server 2007 is collect time spent on
project and non-project work. The tasks tracking capability on the My Tasks
page iis separate from the Timesheet functionality. To simplify things,
resources can enter time in their Timesheet and then import the time toward
the tasks on their My Tasks page. Hope this helps.

Dale,

Just to make sure I have it clear. In order for a user to import their time
from the timesheet into a task the task needs to be listed as a separate line
item in the timesheet. The user would never be able to do this if the line
item was just the Project Name ... correct?

Thanks so much for you help!

Yes, that is correct. When the user creates his/her Timesheet, he/she
should use either the Create With Default Setting option or the Create With
Tasks option. This is assuming that the Project Server administrator
specified the Current Task Assignments option on the Settings and Defaults
page for Timesheets in PWA. To select the option used to create a
Timesheet, the user should float the mouse pointer over the "Click to
Create" link on the My Timesheets page, click the pick list button, and then
select the desired option. Hope this helps.
