Project Owner -- task assignment

If you assign a generic resource and don't name it and if you are the project
owner, it assigns the task with generic resource to you. I have reoccurring
meetings in my project schedule assigning Project Manager(myself) and
Business Analyst(Generic).

When importing tasks it put two assignment tasks on my outlook calendar...

How can I avoid this or is there a better way to do this? Thanks.

What you are seeing is the default behavior of Project Server 2007 for
Generic resources. There are only a couple ways around this issue:

1. From the Resource Center page in PWA, change the Generic resources to
"Generic-like" Work resources and then specify the resource as its own
Assignment Owner.

2. "Hack" the Project Server database and forcibly specify an Assignment
Owner value for the Generic resource (not a good idea, since Microsoft will
not support direct changes to the DB such as this).

Hope this helps.

Hi Dale,

Can you please show me the steps to do the following?

1. From the Resource Center page in PWA, change the Generic resources to
"Generic-like" Work resources and then specify the resource as its own
Assignment Owner.

How do I change the generic resources to 'generic-lik' work resources? How
do I specify the resource as its own Assignment Owner?

Thanks!

Thanks Dale. How do I specify the Resource as it's own assignement owner?

Is that automatically done with I assign the task to the generic-like
resource?

From the Resource Center page, select a Generic resource that you converted
to a "Generic-like" Work resource, and then click the Edit Details button.
Scroll down to the Assignment Attributes section and specify the resource as
its own Default Assignment Owner. Hope this helps.
