Project Pro 2002 and Project Server 2003 Issues

Hi we recently implemented Project Server 2003 and we use Project Pro 2002 to publish our projects. It's only been a month and we've ecnountered the issues outlined below. I hope anyone of you could help me out:

1) Transferring ownership to another Project Manager does not totally transfer complete ownership. For example Manager A publishes the project, but later on it gets transferred to Manager B. Editing the project fields allows you to transfer ownership, but Manager A still gets the notifications that are meant for Manager B.

2) Timesheet Approval link in PWA cannot be found even if it is set in the Menu settings under Admin and the account is already set to Administrator -- all access.

3) Sometimes when projects get published, Project Server fails to create a WSS project site. Therefore there is no document repository.

4) Baseline costs appear to be zero in PWA 2003 after saving the baseline costs in project pro 2002.

I'll take a stab at your first two questions:

1. To transfer management of the project and not just ownership, the new
project manager must open the project, click Collorate - Publish - Republish
Assignments, select the "Become the manager for these assignments" option,
and click OK. Merely changing the Owner field in PWA is not enough.

2. You must enable the timesheet approval global permissions before you can
use this feature. Log into PWA with administrator permissions, click Admin,
and then click the Server configuration link. In the Tasks section of the
"Select the features..." portion of the page, select the Approve Timesheets
for Resources and Timesheet Approval options. In addition, you must also
use the "Hours of work done per day or per week" tracking method with the
"Resources should report their hours worked every day" option selected. In
addition, people who will approve timesheets must be in the Resource
Managers group and will only have permission to approve timesheets for
resources they are given permission to see within the system.

Hope this helps.

Hi Dale,

Thanks for your quick response. I was able to transfer ownership now using the instructions you provided.

As for Timesheet Approval, we are working on Non-managed Periods and Project Server did not allow me to save the changes because it says it can only be enabled using Managed Periods :(

As for my question regarding Sharepoint site creation...why does it happen?
I came up with a temporary workaround solution for this...because whenever I try to go to WSS Settings page, and try to create a site, it would always say: Error creating a sharepoint site. Unable to find a site -- or something like that. So what I would do is:

1) Go to WSS Administration Page and MANUALLY create a top-level site specifically for the erroneous project.
2) Then, once created, i would rename the site title so that the Project Name is equal to the sharepoint site title.
3) I tried to synchronize sharepoint sites so that it adds all team members in the site but nothing happens so again, I would add them manually.

So far we've published 30 projects and I've experienced this twice already.
I was just wondering if I forgot to set something. (I keep updating PsComUtility every now and then for synchronization of accounts...but it's not much help)

Lastly, do you have any checklist or guidelines for Project Managers when they're publishing a project to the project server? Such as the settings should be checked so that collaboration runs smoothly....or just to avoid inconsistencies.

Thank you.
