Project Pro 2007: can't see a cascading outline view of my project

P

PedroJose

Hi,

All of a sudden all views in the Project Pro client show all tasks at the
same level of indentation. The indentation is still there, i.e. the
structure of the plan is fine (project name, summary tasks, etc...) but the
view does not show the space of one level of indentation to the next....
strange... it was all fine yesterday and then this morning, none of the
project show as one big list of tasks with no indentation....
does anybody know how to solve this? or why it happened??

thanks.

Open a project in which you have the problem and then try the following:

1. Click View - Gantt Chart.
2. Click Tools - Options - View.
3. Select the "Indent name" option in the Outline Options section at the
bottom of the dialog.
4. Click the OK button.

Does this resolve the issue? Let us know.

HI Dale,

No luck. This happens to plans saved in project server 07. Do you think I
should try to do the same for the enterprise global??

thanks

Dale,

I did this in the enterprise global and it worked. It now looks like it
should. Why would it change just like that, without anybody having changed
any settings??

Many Thanks.

There's no way this could have happened in the Enterprise Global without
user intervention. Someone must have accidentally "polluted" the Enterprise
Global with a non-enterprise View. The likely culprit is the Gantt Chart
view and its accompanying task Entry table. Are you seeing a warning
message about a duplicate View or Table every time you open a project? If
so, this indicates pollution. Refer to the following FAQ to cleanse the
Enterprise Global of non-enterprise objects:

http://www.projectserverexperts.com/Shared Documents/cantoverwriteobject.htm

Hope this helps.

Dale,

Once again you are 100% correct. That is exactly what happened and the
error that I was getting has gone away. I think what happened was that I
modified the resource usage view in the enterprise global to collapse all
assignments for all resources. This is because every time I open an
enterprise project and go to the resource usage view, every resource is
expanded to show their aasignments, and I don't really want that. Is there
a correct way to do this??

Many thanks.

I don't believe there is any way to enforce this every time a user applies
the Resource Usage view in a project. Because of this, I would recommend
you delete the Resource Usage view from the Enterprise Global file. Hope
this helps.

Dale,

I am now running into a different issue. I can open an enterprise plan and
it is fine. However, when I try to open a different plan, the project pro
client crashes (the microsoft error window appears, asking to restart....).
It also crashes if I open a plan, close it, and try to open a new one. The
only thing I can do is open a plan, close it, exit the application, and then
open the different plan....

Do you have any suggestions??

Thanks.

Have you applied SP1 to Microsoft Project 2007 and Project Server 2007?
Have you applied the post-SP1 hotfix for both software applications as well?
Let us know.

P

PedroJose

Dale, SP1 has been applied to both. The hotfix after SP1 has not. Where
do I get them??

also, we ran into issues when we installed SP1 because of some requirement
with the type of user that needed to be used for the upgrade that we did not
know about as it wasn't documented. Are there any requirements such as this
one that we should be aware of???

Thanks!
