Microsoft have advised us to only us Project Pro instead
of PDS to publish/update project information on the server-
due to the scheduling engine. Project Pro is a desktop
application that does not like being used as a web service
on the server.

Has anyone set this up, and if so how?

Well it is true that Project Pro is the only way to publish a project
to the server that is for sure.

What are you trying to do?

Forgive me for not understanding exactly why you need an on demand
publish of plans. Can you not just change the setting under
Tools>Options>Colloborate tab>"Publish New and Changed Assignments"
updates resources' assignments when: Any task information changes

and change "On every save, publish the following information to Project
Server: New and Changed assignments.

That way, If a plan has had any changes done to it, it must be saved
and will therefore be automatically published.

Again, if I am completely off the topic, I apologize.
