Project renamer is not working

C

Chaitanya

Hi There,

The Renamer Tool which is used to rename the project names is not
working for our recently migrated new project server environment. The
Renamer Tool stills works fine for our old project server. After
logging in to the new server via the Renamer tool and trying to rename
a project we are having the following error message;
"The server did not recognize your request"
We have logged in as an Administrator user who has all the rights on
Projects.

Any clue on where to start looking?

The Project Renamer tool does not work with Project Server 2007. In
2007 you can rename the project directly through PWA or Project Pro.

Could you please ensure that you are using the right account? Are you
able to login to PWA using that account by giving user id and

Ok,

With this being said I have two suggestions for you.

1. Try to register the ProjRenamer DLL at your server and update the
registry. You could better use the installation document comes along
with the tool to perform these actions.
2. If this do not work, try on other computer or reinstall renamer
tool itself.

Mean time, you could look at server's application log to see if it
encounter any specific errors when running this renamer tool.

Thanks,
Ravi.

Hi Chaitanya,

I posted the info below on your post about the same subject on the
Project.Developer list. Did this solve your problem?

When I had problems with the Rename Project Tool, the problem was that the
directions in Microsoft's online documentation are incorrect.

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/projservadmin/HA011642731033.aspx

The directions say the registry value should be "PDSRights.CPDSRights".
Actually, the registry value should be "ProjectRenamer.CMain".

Yes Crook,

If you follow the installation guide, you will end up registering the
below key to the system registry.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\11.0\MS Project
\WebClient Server\ProjectServer]
@=""
"PDSExtensionEx1"="ProjectRenamer.CMain"

And hoping this would resolve the issue.

Thanks,
Ravi.
