Project Server 2003 and Authentication

We are running into a problem with users with Project Server Accounts trying
to access certain areas within project, getting prompted for a Windows user
account. We are not running Active Directory. Is the only way around this
double log in, is to set up an AD.

Users cannot access the Risks, Issues, and Documents functioanality of
Project Server if their user accounts use Project Server authentication.
These features require their user accounts to use Windows User Account
authentication. Hope this helps.l

Thanks Dale, I was aware of those issues. However, I login with a Project
Server account and get to the home page fine. I click on Tasks, the windows
login dialog box appears prompting me to connect to the server. It seems that
any page that is using Active X to call up internal windows (if that makes
sense). Arghhhhhh.

Corey,

You should not need to setup AD. I would start by checking the security
settings for IE for Trusted Sites. Has your organization customized the
default settings?

Hi Gord
Thanks for the response. I do have the Project server listed as a trusted
site in IE. Do I have to log into the server with a windows user account and
check the remember my password box. Then I never have to enter it again. Is
this normal procedure?

Thanks for you time. Corey

Hi Corey,

I didn't mean "Make sure the URL is Trusted". I meant you should check to
see if your settings for the Trust zone are customized. (In IE, Tools >
Internet Options > Security (tab) > Trusted sites (icon)) Some companies
modify these settings for additional security, but this can lead to problems
with PWA.

Thanks Gord, No, we have no custom settings for security. I was told that you
had to list the project server address in IE as a trusted site. Is this not
true? Do I have to log into the server with a windows user account and check
the remember my password box. Then I never have to enter it again. Is this
normal procedure?

Appreciate the help. Corey

Just to clarify, what type of authentication are you using for your Project
Server users?
