Does anyone know if this a supported combination?

I have a DBA who's positive that he can make this work but we're
having doubts whether or not this will be a combination supported by
Microsoft.

Can anyone shed light on this?

TIA!

Hi Jeroen,

Yes it can work. But getting there can be painful and there are a lot more
people that can help you when you use SQL Server 2000.

Having said this, you should take a look at knowledge base article 921116
(KB921116). Here is a pointer for your convenience:

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the reply. Well, if there's knowledgebase articles that
implies to me that it's a supported combination.

Hi,

It works OK if you install manually, however, beware if you need to use OLAP
(Portfolio Analysis views). There is a hotfix to allow using with Analysis
Server 2005, but the hotfix instructions aren't accurate. You should be fine
if you do not use OLAP.
