Project Server 2003 with pro slow

Hy,

We use Project Server 2003 (SP3) and Project pro 2003 (SP3). We have some
big projects (14000 tasks). The problem is that when I open this project from
server, sometimes after opening it everything is ok and fast, but mostly it
is really slow, opening subtask takes about 15 seconds and changing a field
(for example name) value also. When I save the same project into file and
open it, then it's always fast. Can someone help me with this problem?

Project Server 2003 was slow in this area with project bigger than 1000
tasks. You should have your network checked and look for things like slow
routers, delay in network. If it takes more than 50ms to ping your SQL
server you need to maybe use Terminal Services. Project Server 2007 now has
a active cache so changing a single task name does not send the whole project
to the server. 2007 is much faster in this area with a WAN.

Hope this helps

I don't belive my network is causing this, because the same thing happens
when I open Project Pro from the server where sql is running, also ping takes
1ms. And like I mentioned the strange thing is that sometimes the same
project on the same computer is running normal (read fast). And it's not one
project it happens to all projects.

For Projects Larger than 2500 tasks or so I recommend putting
Auto-Calculation on manual. Project has to recalculate each task as you
change fields in Auto-calculation mode, and this can be very slow with large
projects of 14000 tasks.

Hope this helps

That was exactly what I was looking for, I didn't know there is manual
calculation. Now everything works fine.
Thanks.
