Project Server 2007 Additional Instance

R

Rufus

Hi,

I am trying to create a second instance of Project 2007 on the same machine
that already has an instance running. Can anyone tell me or point me to some
tech note about the steps to do that? Thanks in advance.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your help, that was great.

I have a second question, if I want to populate the second instance with the
first, is it all I need is to dump and load the archive, draft, published,
and reporting databases?

Thanks again,
Rufus

Hello Rufus,

I have not tried to restore a database or use an existing database, but I
remember reading a post on this news group that said that you just had to
point to the copy of the database you want to use when you provision the new
site.

I would appreciate it if you can get back to me regarding how successful you
are at copying the data over to another instance of PWA.

Dave

I'm attempting the exact same thing right now. I provisioned a new site
"pwatrain", and it created blank databases on SQL Server for me. I'm
wondering if I can just restore the production PWA databases onto the
pwatrain databases and be good to go, or if there's more involved.

Basically I want a copy of the current PWA environment but in the "pwatrain"
instance.

Instead of doing what you describe, I've had better luck with
restoring the databases, and then specifying the restored databases in
the creation of the PWA site. The provisioning process can alter the
databases and make sure that the appropriate user is set up with Admin
permissions for PWA, among other things.

Thanks! I tried restoring after I had provisioned the site, and I can't
even log into it. I will whack the training site I created and try doing it
in reverse as you describe and see how it goes.
