Project Server 2007 - Import Wizard Adds Resources to Enterprise

H

Hadi

Experts,

I am using the Import Project Enterprise wizard to import some projects to
the Server from my hard drive. I do not want to map any resources to
Enterprise. I want to keep them as local resources. When I do that, the
Resources gets imported to the Enterprise Pool anyways. I have Admin rights
and cannot figure out which permission to turn off so this does not happen.

thanks

Hadi

There is no permission you can change to stop this problem from occurring.
What is happening is when you see the Confirm Resources page in the Import
Project Wizard, the default permission for each local resource is set to Yes
in the Import field. If you do not change the Import field setting to No,
and you have administrator permissions, then the system imports each local
resource as an enterprise resource. This is in spite of the fact that you
said you wanted to leave the resources as local resources in the Map Project
Resources onto Enterprise Resources dialog. Although I reported this to
Microsoft as a bug, they reported back to me that this behavior is by design
and NOT a bug.

So, your only course of action is to make sure you set the Import field
value to No for each local resource when you see the Confirm Resources page
in PWA. Hope this helps.

Thanks Dale. this helps alot. so is it the "New Resource" permission that
will prevent the non-admin users to be able to do this/ I hope this isnt open
to everybody

Only people who are members of the Administrators group and the Resource
Managers group will have the problem you describe. Members of the Project
Managers group will actually see a warning message when they display the
Confirm Resources page in the Import Project Wizard, telling them that they
DO NOT have permission to import resources. So, my advice to you is to slow
down when importing projects and to pay special attention to that pesky
little Confirm Resources page. :) Hope this helps.
