Project Server 2007 Service Error - pjevtsvc and ProjectQueueServi

I'm having problems after installing Project Server 2007 SP1.

I get the following errors:
Unable to start service process. SSP: <hex code> Service: pjevtsvc
Unable to start service process. SSP: <hex code> Service: ProjectQueueService

Neither of these are listed in my Services list. I saw another post where
the poster found that the services didn't connect with the event service
until after he posted, but I've rebooted several times with no success. I've
tried resetting the farm password with no luck.

Is there something I need to do to force these services to connect and run?

So I missed it the first time but I do in fact have "Microsoft Office
Project Server Events Service" and "Microsoft Office Project Server Queue
Service" installed. They are started, with Automatic startup type and using
the same account that is successfully working for my farm.

When I stop the processes I get the following error:

EventType clr20r3, P1 o1aa5umhef2awnrcxi1523kouvoaxhhw, P2 12.0.0.0, P3
46ce70f1, P4 microsoft.office.project.server, P5 12.0.0.0, P6 472fa29a, P7
34a1, P8 13, P9 system.nullreferenceexception, P10 NIL.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Sorry, I should have gone into my settings.

I have a 2 server farm configuration. Here's the specifics:

App Server/Web Front End Server
Windows 2003 SP2
SharePoint 2007 SP1
Project Server 2007 SP1
All MOSS/WSS/Project Services running on this box

Database Server
Windows 2003 SP2 x64
SQL Server 2005 SP2 x64

Thanks,

TC

There are two primary causes for this type of failure, one is that requisite
SQL server services are not running, and the other likely candidate is that
the account that the services is running under is not sufficient or expired
or something like that. Can you verify that SQL is running and available and
can you verify the service account or accounts?

Do you mean that this is only for x64 systems or is the "ensure access to
the internet" issue for both x86 and x64? I have the same problem on both
my dev and prod servers and one is fully x64 and one is fully x86 (app and
db server).

Also, what do I have to do to "ensure access to the internet"? We have no
firewall so there should be no inhibited access to the internet unless it is
an account AD restriction, in which case where do I have to edit it that
setting?

Gary, to answer your previous question, SQL is running without a problem
that I can see and the service accounts are correct and working for other
services.

Thank you both for your help thus far.

The application is not supposed to "phone home" when you install the service
pack. I've only seen this happen on healthy x64 systems. I suppose it could
happen on a x86 system with a bad base install or an old or corrupt copy of
the Microsoft installer. As an "issue," we've been able to reproduce it on
x64 systems only.

Ahh. I'm in the process of building a fresh x86 dev install with
slipstreamed SP1 media for both SharePoint and Project Server. I'll let you
know if the problem exists when I have that set up.

What is the fix for this on x64 systems? My Production environment (all x64
installs) had the same issue as my dev (x86) environment. I can try the fix
on both and see if it is able to solve my issue.

I guess at this point the area that I'm confused about is what do you mean
by "allow access to the Internet". This box has unfettered access to the
internet with no hardware firewalls between it and anywhere it wants to go.
The only firewall is the built-in Server 2003 one-way firewall.

Do you mean simply allow the box to get to the internet or do you mean that
I have to enable some setting or feature on the service or service account
to allow to to successfully get to the internet itself?

Thank you,

TC

I've turned off the firewall completely and no luck. I let it sit there for
about 5 minutes and every minute it kept hitting the same error. I changed
the service account, no luck. I rebooted with the firewall, no luck.

Is there a particular port that it uses to do this communication? I can
have my network guys trace it if I can tell them what to look for.

Thomas:

It could be something else. Maybe this installation failed for another
reason. It may be time to punt on this play. You need to decide whether it's
worth trying to track this down or start over with maybe even a fresh OS
installation.
