Project Server 2007 Timesheet approval

Arun

Hi,
We are using project server 2007. Mnay of our resources working in
multiple projects. That projects are handled by different project managers.
While submitting the timesheet they adding tasks from different projects and
booking their timings. And submitting to one project manager for approval.
Because in project server we can assign one person as a timesheet manager. Is
possible to submit the timesheet to multiple persons for approval. That is if
the resource submit the timesheet one project manager and he can veryfy his
tasks and approve and forward it to another project manager like that. If
possible how can I do that.

Thanks in advance,
arun

Arun,

This is normally a very well discussed topic. Timesheets and task
updates are two separate entities by default.
Timesheets goes to the timesheet manager as you have mentioned, which
could be approved by multiple approvers but not at once, it works by
disabling Fixed Approval Routing
from the timesheets settings page under administration.

Once you submit these timesheets it will only update a resources time
spent, and NOT project task progress. Unless you use the option that
enables "time entry by timesheet only"
that means a resource captures its time in the timesheet and then use
the Import Timsheet functionality on the tasks page to import Task
progress for the projects , once the user
then submits task progress the induvidual Project Managers Will get
their task progress and the timesheet manager will get the resources
time for the specified period.

In most of my scenarios at clients Timesheet Managers are normally the
resources direct Managers like a line manager.

If this helped please rate the post.

Hi Andre,

how to setting for multiple resource manager...
we assume there were 3 Project, A, B and C Project and one resource should
submitting their timesheet to 3 TimeSheet Manager...
Task A will approve by A TimeSheet Manager
Task B will approve by B TimeSheet Manager
Task C will approve by C TimeSheet Manager

thanks

Reza,

Remember that there is a difference in timesheets and task updates.
Tasks goes to the approval manager (Project manager) timesheets goes
to timesheet manager (Resource Manager) to send a timesheet as you
have mentioned above you need to disable fixed approval routing from
the admin page. Then the resource could send there timesheet to
whomever appears in the list that has the permission to approve
timesheets. Task updates will always go to the Status manager for the
task.

hope this helps ,

Sorry for the delay i was on leave :)
