Project Server 2007 Tutorials + Walkthroughs + Presentations

I am new to MS Project Server 2007 and I have no experience what so ever with
previous editions of this product.

I am asked to install & implement this product in my company.

Currently, I am in the process of installing this product but also I am
looking for some tutorials and step-by-step walkthroughs for this product
that teaches novices everything they need to know about this product so that
it helps them in implementing it in their companies.

Also, are there any available animated demos/presentations for this product

Thanks in advance.

Luai,

This is not a product that should be implemented by a novice. I know this
is not what you want to hear, and that your manager has probably given you a
directive to complete this work, but I would strongly suggest engaging a
Microsoft Partner to help you deploy this tool.

If this really isn't a option, there is an implementation course on
http://msepmu and there is a significant amount of technical documentation on
technet. However none of this will be any use if your company does not have
a reasonably mature project methodology.

Hi NZ,

Thanks a lot for your advise.

In fact, I have no other option but to work on my own on this issue.
I understand that MS Project Server is not a simple product to implement,
but we could say that we need to implement this product with its minimum
possible capabilities. That's exactly why I am looking for walkthroughs for
this product for example on working with Resources, Schedules, Time sheets...
etc

If you like, I am looking for the most common best practice for the basic
project entites in order to get things going. Off course, afterwards
adjustments/customizations could be made to tailer this product to our needs

By the way, the link you specified for the implementaion course
"http://msepmu" does not work!

Thanks agian.

Luai:

NZ offers you great advice, but we are all too familiar with your scenario,
and the show must go on. So, please allow me to suggest that you obtain a
copy of out Managing Enterprise Projects using Microsoft Office Project
Server 2007, which will walk you through using the system. However, your
first challenge is configuring it, and our book, Implementing and
Administering Microsoft Office Project Server 2007 walks you through all
this. Unfortunately, the book will not be available for another 30 days. You
can find these on Amazon.com , bn.com, or at
http://www.projectserverbooks.com

Hi Gary,

Thanks a lot for your understanding.

In fact I placed an order for 2 of these 2 books from Amazon.com and I
noticed that one of them is not yet available as you indicated. Obviously,
this might slightly delay our implementation because I very much like to have
a look at this "Implementatio..." book because I am pretty certain that it
contains great stuff and walks you though very nicely. Offcourse, I am not
saying that because you are the author of this book ;-) but because this is
the very truth.

I am very much looking forward to getting these books.

Meanwhile, I will try to play around with this product. I will post any
questions or issues I need to query about on this forum, try to search
TechNet documentations blogs, and msdn... etc

What to do "C'est la vie" :)

Thanks again Gary.

- Luai.

Hi Gary,

Do you mean the document: "Planning and Architecture for Office Project
Server 2007.doc" which is published on the Project Server site?

Although this document contains useful information, however, it is a little
bit abstract. In other words, it lacks the practical part.

I will give you an example: It was only by trial & error and a lot of hard
work that I discovered that a "Team Build" should be assigned to each newly
created project so that its resources are available for selection for the
various tasks.

So as you see, what I am looking for is a practical Walkthrough and
step-by-step practical best-practices in building a Project in Project
Server, assigning tasks & resources, publishing the project, then requesting
from resources (Team members) to report their tasks status.... etc etc

By the way, it seems that the date of publishing for the book:
"Implementing and Administering Microsoft Office Project 2007" is delayed
until 24th Oct 2007!!
Any ideas about its this issue as this book seems to be a very valuable
resource for us in implementing this product :)

Thanks agian.
