Project Server 2010 - Issues with Timesheet

T

Hi all,

I am doing a pilot for a customer and they have noticed a few issues with
Timesheet functionality. I'd appreciate any feedback.

Background

The customer is using Timesheets in SEM (Single-Entry mode). Users are
instructed to fill-in their task progress only in My Timesheet view. Weekly
time reporting periods have been defined.

Issue #1

A few project tasks are shown in a resource’s timesheet. When sending a task
for approval (button “Send Statusâ€), the task is marked with “Awaiting for
approval†in field Process Status. When the task is approved, there is no
status shown, i.e. the field is blank. The resource cannot determine if the
task was sent and approved unless he clicks on the task to view its details.
Why is the Approved status missing and how will the resource know when it’s
time to submit the entire timesheet?

Issue #2

The customer has tested 2 alternative cases:

1. A resource updates a task’s progress in his timesheet, sends status
for the task and – upon PM approval – sends the entire timesheet to Timesheet
Manager. With the exception of the above missing status, everything works as
expected.

2. A resource updates a task’s progress in his timesheet but sends the
timesheet without first sending status. In that case, SEM seems to work ok,
i.e. the system automatically sends the pending task to the corresponding PM.
However, unless the PM approves the task, the timesheet is not shown to the
Timesheet Manager for approval. But no message or warning denotes this case.

Issue #3

The resource opens an already created timesheet for a period later than the
current week. He clicks Save without entering any information at all.
Unexpectedly, the timesheet is populated with entries with incomplete project
tasks from other reporting periods. Is this normal and if so, why didn’t
these tasks appear in the first place?

TIA
