Project Server Installation

David

Hi,
I have a doubt regarding the Project Server Installation
is it necessary to create the OLAPAdmin,STSAdmin &
STSReader accounts while doing the Installation using the
CUSTOM option OR will it work fine using the local
Administrator account for accessing STS,OLAP, SQL Server
database using the AUTOMATIC option of Installation.
I need expert advice. Thanks in advance.
Regards,
David

You are correct. You can even use one account for all the access (security is almost non existant) and with typical installs the Project and STS
accounts are created for you. Yes you will encounter issues (you must create an STS account with local admin rights to copy document and
create issues on the Server). And yes you do have to create an account for the OLAPAdmin account as this is not automatically done for you.
This all depends on your security auditing procedures (limit each account thus cracking one won't give too much ability to disrupt too much).

Please feel free to reply to this thread for further info.

Anyone has any suggestions based on previous installations
performed.

Mark,
Thanks for your advice. I have a quick question in
our organization we have got the Project Server
Installation done(outsourced). But, it has been done using
the local administrator account for STS & OLAP users. No
separate accounts have been created for STS & OLAP account
users.

Excellent question:
Please understand that these are enterprise applications that carefully pieced together.
If you change the OLAPAdmin user's password and or user_account you must run c:\program files\microsoft project server\bin\1033
\pscomplus.exe and enter that new domain/username and password into the first option.
If you change the STSadmin account name and or password you must run the same pscomplus.exe as noted above BUT use the second
option within.
If you change the STSReader account/password please use the pscomplus.exe and use the third entry to do all this.
Thus if this Admin account password changes you must run the PSCOMPLus.exe and then enter in the appropriate info into the appropriate 1,2
and/or 3rd options. you will only know this as per the documentation left behind from the Extrernal Implementors.

Unfortunate this is the best I can do for you bet to offer some further links to examine for security/accounts:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/msftproject2002/Train/2002/WIN98MeXP/EN-US/PrjTrn03.exe
Use lesson/module 41 for better account set up.
Good luck.
