Project Server "unexpected server response"

Ryan

Starting just today, Project Managers are unable to connect to the project
server when opening Project Professional 2003 (the server is PS 2003 running
Windows Server 2003). I get an error: "Unexpected Server Response. Project
Server has returned an unexpected response. Click view...". This is the
same exact error you get if the server does not exist (or the URL is typed
incorrectly).

The problem we're having is that there has been no changes whatsoever to the
server since the last time it was working (yesterday). No errors are
showing up in the Event log. We've tried rebooting the server with no luck.

What makes the problem really odd is that project server appears to be
running correctly in every other aspect but PP users cannot connect to it.
PWA and SPS works absolutely fine.

What services should be running to allow PP users to connect to PS? Any
other suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Ryan

Ryan,

I see this message when windows is not managing the logon password for PS.
If you XP boxes you can check the "Remember this password" box and windows
will manage the logon to PS via the client (MS Project Pro ). If you have
W2K boxes, depending on how the OS was setup, it may not hold the username
and password info. When that happens you get the error. In other words, if
the local box is not managing the logon information, you will get that error
when Project Pro users try to logon. As to why that may have happened
overnight, I have no idea.
If you are using PWA accounts, forget everything I just said.

Thanks for the help. It was a problem with IE security settings. Your
reply got me looking in the right place.

Ryan,
I am being troubled by the same error message. Can you please tell me which
internet setting did you change?
