Project server Update

W

Walid

Hello:

I have found several articles in regards to updating Project server 2007.
After going through them, I would like to clarify a few items:

1. Should I install only the December 2008 cumulative Update for Office
Server 2007 or the individual Project Server package?

2. do I need to insall the latest CU for WSS as well?

3. does the sequence of installation make a difference? For example,
installing WSS CU before Office Server CU or the other way around?

Thank you for your assistance!

It would be helpful to know at what point you are upgrading from. If you
haven't installed the infrastructure update, you should look at the
dependencies it has on SharePoint updates and install these accordingly.
With other updates, Microsoft will tell you whether there are dependencies
on SharePoint updates. The CUs issued after the IU generally work without
also patching WSS and MOSS, but I think it's a very good practice to keep
the entire farm patched at the same level.

Thank you. I wanted to know if I updated MS Office Project Server, would
that also update WSS? Or do I need to install WSS updates separately?

I am at Service Pack 1 right now.

Thanks,

Walid

They're separately applied updates. To make things more confusing, the
Infrastructure Update and Service Packs are packaged differently than the
Cumulative Updates. The IU and SPs ship with all the server updates bundled
together, while the CUs are all separate downloads. You should search Brian
Smith's Blog and Christophe Fiessinger's Blog for additional guidance in
addition to TechNet.
