Jim Baker

Greetings.

I am trying to install Project server on Small Business Server 2003 and use the share point services to do projects with the web portal.

I am going to be totally honest..I am lost..I have installed SQL and and Preject server....I believe that I have everything set right but I cant get anything to sync..or connect with project server..

anybody up to helping a hard headed dummy who knows less than he thinks he does?

Jim, It is important that you read through the Administrator and Installation guides. They list the specific steps you have to go through for a successful installation. Most importantly, you need to make sure you setup all of the appropriate service accounts and create the write SQL Server permissions and roles. If I remember correctly, the guides are oriented towards Sharepoint Services not Sharepoint Portal Server. Someone else may have specific recommendations on whether or not to install first with just Sharepoint Services and then upgrade to Sharepoint Portal Server.

Jim:

Are you trying to install SharePoint Portal Server on the same machine as
Project Server? This doesn't fly. If you want to use both of these
applications, you'll need two machines.

All, I just spoke to a senior tech on another matter and brought up your issue. The following are the salient points

1. Very not recommended to install WSS on Small Business Server 2003. Reason, SBS2003 is a domain controller and MSFT strongly discourages running WSS or Project Server 2003 on a domain controller

2. You CAN run PS2003 and SPS2003 on the same machine (it's been done), but it is not recommended for performance reasons. You CANNOT run PS2002 and SPS2003 or PS2003 and Sharepoint Team Services (STS) on the same machine. There are file name conflicts since both prior versions still used the file system for various data items

Hope this helps.

This can't be right, SBS2003 includes WSS (Windows Sharepoint Services) as
part of the standard setup. ???
