Project Server Workspace

Michael van Orten

Hi everybody,

i have a urgent question and i hope somebody has solved the problem
already. :)

I have MOSS 2007 and Project Server 2007 with Service Pack 1.

I have created a MOSS 2007 Teamsite, which i want to use as a Project
Server Workspace. How can i do it?

I have read a lot but i found no solution. Has anybody found a
workaround to solve the problem?

Thanks!!

In a nutshell, you can't. A Project workspace needs Risk and Issue
lists, with the appropriate fields so that Project Server can maintain
the connection.

You should start with a blank Project Workspace and then add on to
that to make your custom site.

Of course, with SQL database access, you can always pound a square peg
into a round hole, but you really shouldn't.

Hi James,

sorry for my english - so i try to undersand what you talking
about. ;)

So you are right, but i make it possible to use project server
webparts unter my portal.
so the problem is, for example, i use a lot of "content types" under
my moss portal, which i want also use under my workspace.

so i understand right, that there is no possibility?!

greetings :)

Hi Micheal,
If you have MOSS and Project Server on the same PC then, on your MOSS
Team Site activate the "Project Workspace Collaboration Lists" and
then save site as a template. I think this might do the job (God
Willing).

Best regards,
Tanzim Akhtar.

Hi Tanzim,

sorry, but i do not understand it. Here my questions:

- can i use a "MOSS Teamsite" as a ProjectWorskspace Template?
- and what are the "Project Workspace Collaboration Lists" doing and
where can i activate it?

sorry, but i haven't understand it. :)

Greetings

Hi Michael,

If MOSS has been installed and configured with Project Server to
manage MS Project schedules with MS Project,
then you can't use any templates other than Project Workspace
template.

MS project plans will internally tie with WSS to keep association
between project schedules and SharePoint lists such as
Issues/Risks/Deliverables. Project Workspace collaboration lists
(issues/risks/delevirables) are exist only in default Project
Workspace template.

To have customized site look, you have to use Default workspace
template and modify it as per your needs. Once you customize the
default workspace, deploy it as template for site creation.

Honestly I never worked in MOSS environment, but this is my
understand.

Thanks

Chak,

Wonderful explanation. Let me add some more points to it so that
Michael has some more idea.

1. If all you need is to have your customized webparts in all project
workspaces, customize a workspace to your taste and create a template
and install it, make it as a default template for workspaces.
2. In this case, all your projects prior changing to this new template
can not have the modification.
3. Also when modifying, do not delete any of out of the box
configuration on lists & list columns. Simply hide them and create/add
the new one of your requirement.

if you modify the out of the box date formats, your project may have
problems in getting published.

Thank,
Ravi.
