Project State Field

Can someone explain what Project State Field is?
This setting controls the behavior of the "State" field in Project Web
Access. If the State field is governed by an external workflow, it will
always be rendered in a read-only mode in Project Web Access.

Hi Brad,

The State field is a default custom field which allows you to integrate into
an external workflow ( e.g. if you have MOSS installed). It would then be
updated by the workflow process.

If you dont have an external workflow integrated into Project Server, you
can use this custom field to outline the State of your Proposal / Project.

I hope this helps

Marc,

Can you tell me the differences between having WSS installed VS MOSS as it
relates to PWA?

NZ Projects

The key difference is that MOSS provides the workflow capability. Other
benefits for PWA include:-

Excel Services Reportings
Enterprise Search

Hi Brad,

as NZ Projects suggest MOSS gives you great new features like the KPI lists
or (depending on the MOSS license you aquired) Excel Services.

MOSS also gives you "build in" workflow which adds great value, but since
all workflows are based on windows workflow foundation (WF) ( which is part
of windows sharepoint services) you could custom develop your own workflow
without having MOSS. ( but that required serious effort)

If you are thinking of implementing MOSS you should investigate more of its
functionality, since it can be fairly costly for an organisation. There is a
wealth of information out there in regards to MOSS ( just go to the Microsoft
page). This will allow you get a complete picture of what MOSS can achieve.

I hope this helps
