Project taking a long time to open or update

kym

We are running project 2007 with project server 2007 & EPM. Recently we
got a
project which had not been created with our standard global template.
the
project has about 8000 tasks and about 5 indent levels.
Now if you open the project up locally (whilst not coneccted to the EPM
)it works
fine opens quickly updates of progress etc are almost instantaneous. If you
are connected to EPM opening the same project locally then takes about 5
minutes to open and any update you do takes about the same time for each
update.
All other projects are working just fine with 5000 + tasks, its just
this one.
Has anybody got any ideas or experienced similar issues.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Kym,

We had similar (about 2 minutes) experience with a project that had number
of 'local resources' in the resource sheet. what we did is created the
resources as enterprise resources then replaced these with the same ent.
resources. (match/import from enterprise pool then match).

I noticed in ULS logs thatthere was a number (dozens and dozens) of PSI
calls to 'find' the local resource and then that call was taking time either
to come back with 'not found' or something like that.. I can't remember.. but
once these resources were converted to enterprise ones, that was all gone
from logs and the same project published in about 10 seconds..

We're on PS2007 with SP1 + Dec CU..

I don't know the technical reasons behind this but this is how it worked in
our scenario\environment. We've since pretty much abolished use of local
resources on project plans and have things running smoothly and the number of
'pending check-ins' has decreased as well from couple a week to one or two a
month, if that..
