Project version affects on Baseline

Hey Folks,

I currenty have a published workplan which is baselined. Out PMO has
restructured the template so I will have to make major changes to the
workplan. My intentions are to save locally as a mpp file, make the changes,
delete the old project and save and publish the new one. What affect will
this have on baseline as well as the progress reported (thru time tracking)
on the existing published workplan. Is the a more structure process to make
drastic changes to an existing published workplan.

If it were me, I would keep working with the current copy of the production
project and would not attempt to modify it to look like the new layout of
the project template. If that is not an option, then I would recommend that
you rework the project to meet the new project template layout and then ask
the PMO to give you a methodology for rebaselining the project. If you
rebaseline the project, you will lose all of your variance to date. If you
are not too far into a long project, that's probably no big deal. If you
are a significant amount of the way into the project, then losing all your
variance is probably an issue. Just a thought.
